Rose - A Solitaire Card Game

♥️♣️🌹♠️♦️

Requirements

1. A standard deck of 54 playing cards, shuffled

2. A generous playing surface

3. A way to keep score (I recommend a calculator)

Setup

1. Lay out a column of 4 cards, face up. This is the center column of the Rose (“game board”).

2. On either side of this column, lay out columns of 3 cards, face up, so that the centers of the cards in the side columns align with the gaps between the cards in the center column. You should now have 10 cards in your Rose, and it should resemble a brick wall rotated 90 degrees.

3. On either side of the Rose, place columns of two cards, face up, so that they align with the two center cards of the first column you placed. You should now have a Rose of 14 cards that  resembles an asymmetrical circle or hexagon. Note that all cards are adjacent to at least three, and up to six, other cards.

4. Place the remaining forty cards in a facedown draw pile within reach.

Gameplay

1. Selection: Mentally select two or more cards in your Rose that are equal in value.

2. Scoring: Modify the number of cards in your selection as follows. Modifiers are cumulative. (Jokers represent any card of your choice, as per usual): A) If all cards in your Selection are adjacent to at least one other card in your Selection, multiply by two; B) If all cards in your Selection were Aces, Kings, Queens or Jacks, multiply by two; C) If your Selection contains a Joker, multiply by two. (Note: a Selection may only contain one Joker)

3. Scoring (cont’d): Add the number of cards in your Selection, after modifiers, to your current score.

4. Updating: Draw a number of cards from your draw pile equal to the (unmodified) number of cards in your Selection. Place one, face up, on each card you Selected, effectively replacing them. Do this in the way that you think would be most beneficial to you, not randomly (Unless you don’t know what would be most beneficial to you. In that case, randomly is fine).

Continue until you have 0 or 1 cards in your draw pile. Note your final score, if you wish. Mine, at the time of writing this, is 116

That’s it. Have fun :)
